      <image:caption>Oxalis (klaverzuring) is een geslacht van planten uit de Klaverzuringfamilie (Oxalidaceae). Het is het grootste geslacht binnen de familie. Oxalis is afgeleid van het Griekse oxus of oxys (zuur) De op klaver lijkende bladeren zijn hartvormig en gegroepeerd. Ze lijken sterk op klaver, maar bij klaverzuring is het middelste blad iets groter. De meeste soorten Oxalis zijn vorstgevoelig. Het zijn dan ook planten, die voornamelijk in pot worden gehouden en kunnen overwinteren op een koele, vorstvrije plek. Oxalis in de volle grond geplant, moet in het najaar worden afgedekt met blad. De kans is dan groot, dat de planten in de lente weer goed uitlopen. Bloei: april – juni in de volle grond. In pot gekweekt, bijna jaarrond.</image:caption>

It is the largest species within the family. ‘Oxalis’ is derived from the Greek ‘oxus’ or ‘oxys’ (acid). The leaves that show similarity to those of shamrock are heart-shaped and clustered. They bear a striking resemblance with shamrock, but false shamrock has a slightly larger centre leaf. Most Oxalis species are sensitive to frost. Therefore these plants are mostly kept in pots and are placed in a cool frost-free place in order to survive the winter. When planted in the soil, Oxalis should be covered with leaves in autumn. In that case there is a good chance that the plants will sprout again in spring. Flowering season: April – June when planted in the soil, nearly year-round when planted in a pot.</image:caption>
