Viola or violet is a biennial plant often bearing three-coloured flowers. The plant loves a moist and sunny to slightly shady spot. Its botanical species, such as the field pansy, disseminate easily.
Violets are hardy and can handle temperatures down to -20°C.
Violets originate from areas with a temperate climate, e.g. the Alps.
It is possible to decorate all kinds of dishes with these cheerful flowers. When the flowers are sugar-coated they can be used for decorating cakes or cupcakes too. Also, the flowers often form the basis of perfumes, because of their fresh, soft fragrance.
Violets are soft and have a fairly neutral taste.
